I Made A Split Second Decision!

On a daily basis life happens to us. Within the process of life, there are certain things in certain orders, for certain reasons, that happens for which we find ourselves reacting. Many of those reactions are split second reactions. I am reminded of the quote by Charles R. Swindoll that says, “life becomes 10% what happens and 90% how you react”. Therefore; the responsibility of how our life events manifest and what is manifested is up to us. That’s right, we are where we are today because of our own reactions.

Our reactions to life, our reactions to others, our reactions to words, what we say or do seemingly without thought, gets us into trouble. Whether its an emotional response, quick judgements and/or assumptions we are headed for trouble. How do we avoid the trouble of reactions? I have included, questions that’ll assist in better handling split second reactions. Think of the last time you had a split second reaction that obviously went wrong and apply the following questions to that situation.

  • What did you say or do in your split second reaction?
  • What were you experiencing emotionally at that time of the split second reaction?
  • What do you know for sure was correct about your assumption(s)? and what wasn’t?
  • What were the consequences of reacting so quickly?
  • In what ways do you think your “split second” reaction was warranted?

By working through past situations, we are better prepared for future manifestations. In the practical practice above, we train the mind to think (process the emotion) – before our mouth speaks. This practice builds our self awareness, and helps us to identify our feelings, manage distressing moods and control our impulses.

As the days approach, stay motivated when it comes to your life’s goals, while remaining hopeful and optimistic when you face setbacks in life. Surely, those days will come but with a made up mind and armed with self awareness – YOU & I WILL WIN THE FIGHT….
